چکیده

Operating System designers currently face two major challenges. One is the coexistence of time-sharing and dynamic real-time components on a single machine and even in the same application. The other is that many acceleration techniques (e.g. caches) used in modern hardware architectures work very well for the average case, but not for the worst case which counts for real-time systems. This scenario is addressed by DROPS, the Dresden Realtime OPerating System. DROPS uses resource managers which have been and still are being built in an ad hoc manner and that allow the reservation of resources, the enforcement of the reservations and the usage of unreserved or reserved but unused resources for other, non-real-time applications. While these resource managers have been built and work very well and are well published (see e.g. [5, 9, 3]), they all have their own, unique ad hoc interface. This paper describes a more unified, systematic approach that is applicable at various system levels and allows a systematic construction of applications using cooperating resource managers.

The QOS Broker

Many networked multimedia applications are delay-sensitive, and hence desire services with guarantees of resouce availability and timeliness. For networks such as those based on Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), these services are specified through Quality of Service (QoS) parameters. Delivering end-to-end QoS implies complex resource management at the end-points (e.g., computer workstation hos...

A Planner for Cooperating Transactions in EPOS

The paper reports work on automatic planning of cooperating transactions in the EPOS Process Support Environment. Such assistance can be used by project managers to help organize software production (development, maintenance), according to incoming change-requests and according to the product/version space of the software and related resources (tools, humans). It is a formidable task to manuall...

Computer Aided Training for Cooperating Emergency Managers: Some Results of Muster Project

The paper presents italian results of the CEC Environment Project MUSTER (Multi-Users System for Training and Evaluating Environmental Emergency Response). A novel conceptualization framework for the computer aided training of cooperating and coordinated emergency managers is discussed. Two basic functions of the computer support system have been defined: a simulation of an emergency environmen...

Grid Resource Discovery Model Based on the Hierarchical Architecture and P2P Overlay Network

The Grid technology enables large-scale sharing and coordinated use of networked resources. The kernel of computational Grid is resource sharing and cooperating in wide area. In order to obtain better resource sharing and cooperating, discovering resource must be efficient. In this paper, we propose a Grid resource discovery model that utilizes the flat and fully decentralized P2P overlay netwo...

Kinematics and Dynamics of two Cooperating Robots in Spatial Moving of an Object

The kinematics and dynamics of two industrial cooperating robots are presented in this paper. The NOC (natural orthogonal complement) method is used to derive the dynamical equations for the motion of two cooperating robots. The joint torques of the two robots are determined based on the optimization techniques in order to obtain unique solution for joint torques. To this end, minimizing the cr...
